Plastic waste is often seen as something that should be discarded once damaged. However, through plastic welding training programs, communities are learning that many plastic products can be repaired, reused, and given a second life instead of being thrown away. Through the partnership between Lithos Manufacturing and Manly Plastics, training initiatives have been conducted to teach plastic welding skills that support both environmental sustainability and livelihood development. The program focuses on educating participants on how to repair plastic products, making the process more affordable and environmentally responsible than replacing damaged items.
The training also supports the development of Rainfold, an innovative plastic-based water storage system. Beyond product development, the initiative aims to equip communities with the skills needed to maintain and repair these systems, ensuring their long-term usability and value. What started as training for clients has expanded to include local government units (LGUs), which are now helping transfer these skills to members of their own communities. This creates a ripple effect of knowledge-sharing, empowering more individuals to benefit from practical and income-generating skills.
The program welcomes everyone regardless of gender. As long as participants are willing to learn, they are given the opportunity to develop valuable technical skills that can be used both at home and as a source of livelihood. More than just a technical skill, plastic welding represents a step toward green technology and sustainable practices. By promoting repair instead of disposal, the training contributes to waste reduction, resource conservation, and environmental awareness while creating new economic opportunities for communities. Through continuous training and community engagement, this initiative demonstrates how innovation, education, and sustainability can work together to create positive and lasting impact.
